What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low impact, mind-body method of exercise focused on building core strength, improving kinesthetic awareness improving balance and stability, as well as increasing flexibility and coordination.
There are 6 principles of Pilates:
- Concentration – developing kinesthetic awareness of all body parts and balancing the use of different muscles
- Control – conscious, deliberate movement with each body part have a roll in each exercise
- Flow – move with fluidity, grace, and ease; the exercises are dynamic with minimal “downtime” between them
- Centering – focusing on the core, aka the “powerhouse”
- Precision – precise placement with each exercise and awareness of the alignment of each body part
- Breath – coordinating inhale/exhale with the movements of the body to aid in effective oxygen exchange for the muscles; learning to expand ribcage in all directions to increase efficiency
What classes do you offer?
All classes are currently equipment-based, but do incorporate mat repertoire. The Pilates Reformer is the main piece of equipment used in classes. Depending on the skill level of the class, other pieces of equipment will be incorporated, such as our Pilates Chairs, Arc Barrels, Pilates Cadillac, Pilates Tower, Pilates Rings, or Bosu Balls.
While mat classes are not currently offered on our schedule, we are currently considering incorporating mat classes depending on interest level of our clients, so please reach out to us using the form at the bottom of the page.
